About LiftVOICE Observing the difficulties the disabled and others had with normal elevator messaging, Grant McLean, Managing Director, LiftVOICE, recognised a need for an audio elevator messaging service. Grant developed a prototype in 1992 and in 1993 delivered the first message boards to Dunedin Public Hospital, where staff assumed responsibility for interfacing and installing the units into the hospital's fourteen elevators. In 2002, LiftVOICE Ltd took over full control of Elevator Message Control manufacturing, and has continued with this and their design, development and marketing. The LiftVOICE units are now manufactured, assembled, and programmed by Grant and a contracted technician. Grant's twenty-one year industrial design and electronics background has seen him working for the New Zealand Electricity Department and as a partner in ElectroLink Services Limited. His field of expertise is in the field of telemetry and primarily in systems integration for radio-based technology as well as in SCADA systems for water utilities, water treatment plants, and industrial users.
